"I have an EFS model that I bought new in 11/2002.

Ed Brown beavertails also "drop in" except for the usual filing to make the trigger block fit correctly. I discovered this after planning on refitting my CD with a Brown Memory Groove BT. When I put the fitting jig on the frame, there was nothing to remove. Installing the Brown BT was as easy as installing the Wilson drop in BT in a Colt....Not to mention it fits and looks better.

Now, before anybody says, DUH!!!!!!!, the CD's come with a BT... I wanted the brown (I think it looks good ), and was hoping I would get some experience in fitting the beavertail even if I wouldn't have to remove all the metal that would come off a "mil-spec" gun. However, that will be my next project.

I also replaced the front sight with the MMC tritium night sight front post from Brownell's part number #617-172-125.

Springs are Wollf and the slide stop, safety, hammer, disconnector and sear are all Chip McCormick, and the FLGR is a Wilson two-piece. I had a one piece but it kept binding the gun up unless I used two shok-buffs.

The grips are a pair of half checkerd, half smooth red oak panels that I cut and checkered myself.

The only parts on the gun that are factory CD is the barrel, frame and slide and mag release.

The frame has even been blasted and parkerized with a kit I got from Shooter's Solutions .

For all those wondering, No, I can't leave anything alone.....lol

It looks really cool with the parked frame and slide with stainless controls and BT with teh dark wood grips, even if I do say so myself."

Yep, I would think that traditional slide tightening would be more cost effective.

And if you are concerned about wear, then I would look into Shooter Solutions' Moly-Fusion. This stuff is supposed to be the cat's meow as far as friction reduction goes.

For the parkerizing, I used Shooter Solutions' Heavy Duty parkerizing kit manganese mixture because it creates a deep black finish [rather then] the zinc phosphate solution which gives more of a gray finish [not the black].

I am going to have a website up tomorrow that gives details about the whole thing from beginning to end. I just gotta get it home and get it uploaded. Until then, it was Shooter Solutions' zinc phosphate. It wasn't much trouble, and again, check back later this evening and you can read about the whole process.

USMCsilver purchased the zinc, because it was to be covered with a final coating, but it turned out so good and so dark, he left it alone.
